British Standard (BS) 476 Class 0 Classification
Class 0 Classification is part of UK Building Regulation for fire safety that applies to wood or wood-based coverings and internal linings. A Class 0 building material protects the surface from the spread of flames and limits the amount of heat released from the surface during the fire.
In order to achieve Class 0 Classification, the test results are required to:
1. Achieve the index of overall performance of not exceeding 12 and subindex not exceeding 6 for British Standard (BS) 476 Part 6 that measures fire propagation, that is a test that measures the amount of heat the surface is giving off during the fire.
2. Achieve Class 1 (highest rating) in British Standard (BS) 476 Part 7’s fire resistance classifications. It measures the spread of flame along the surface of a specimen of a building material (positioned vertically). A Class 1 result indicates that the flame does not spread further than 165mm from the point of ignition over the total test time of 10 minutes. In another word, more time allowance for fire escape is made possible.
Maica sent maiLaminate that is bonded to calcium silicate board for BS 476 Part 6 and Part 7 tests. The test results show that it has met the above 2 criteria and therefore it is a building material of Class 0 Classification.

maiAnti-Bacteria
Maica maiProducts are endowed with maiAnti-Bacteria qualities with on-demand delivery since 1968 and standard delivery since 2012.
Bacteria exist everywhere. Our body alone has trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms. The number of bacteria outnumbers our human cells 10 to one. This means that our human body itself is a universe, one so diverse and complex, yet complete and functioning on its own without our conscious knowledge.
- maiAnti-Bacteria using Silver Ion Technology, the same technology used by hospitals and in clinical settings.
- Reduces over 99% of bacterial activities in laboratory environment, tested by external third party laboratory using JIS Z 2801:2012 standard for 5 types of bacteria:
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Escherichia coli
- Salmonella chloeraesuis
- Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- 95% reduction of bacterial activities in live environment.
- Helps to reduce the microbial activities in other untreated objects within the same environment.
Advantages of Application:
- Hospitals
- Clinics
- Laboratories
- Schools
- Healthcare centres
- Public facilities
- Furniture
- Kitchen
- Toilet cubicles and doors
- Sports centres
maiAnti-Finger Print
Maica’s specialty product, maiInvisible-T, is endowed with the maiAnti-Finger Print technology as the product surface is specially treated with the Electron Beam Curing (EBC) technology. This technology requires multi-layer coating of electron beam-curing resins applied to the surface decorative paper. The curing of the resin is done with a precisely controlled electron beam, causing the cross-linkage of the resin molecules to create a perfectly closed surface structure. This results in the following attributes to the products:
- Anti-Finger Print - easily wipe off grease and grime with water and soft cloth.
- Highly resistant to water - maintenance is not a problem, just use water and wipe away.
- Extremely easy to maintain - No need to use harsh cleaning detergents for surface.
- Scuff corrections - As long as the product surface is not damaged, some fine scuffling lines can be easily resolved by applying a damp cloth on the affected area and putting a heated device (an iron or even a hot kettle) on the cloth for approximately 30 seconds. Remove the heated device and the wet cloth. Once the water evaporates, the scuffing lines will not be visible on the surface.
Advantages of applications:
* Any horizontal and vertical applications.

maiAnti-Fungi
Maica products are endowed with maiAnti-Fungi properties.
- Strict adherence to the EN438 ensures manufacturing with high heat and high pressure, releasing moisture and compressing raw materials to a very high density. There is no air or water within the build-up of the panel. The absence of these two factors automatically stunts the growth possibility of fungi on the panels.
- The anti-microbial silver ion technology also contributes to the elimination of fungi on the panels.
- Fungi elimination means minimization of chances for respiratory contact with fungi vegetative spores and no need to worry about the emission of mycotoxin from fungi.
- No possibility of maiLaminate and maiCompact decay due to fungi.
- Tested for 5 types of fungi:
- Aspergillus niger
- Penicillium pinophilum
- Chaetomium globosum
- Gliocladium virens
- Aureobasidium pullulans
Advantages of Application:
- Hospitals
- Clinics
- Laboratories
- Schools
- Healthcare centres
- Public facilities
- Kitchen
- Furniture
- Toilet cubicles and doors
- Sports Centres
maiAnti-Scuffing
Designers are usually reluctant to use glossy surface as there is always the fear of scuffing marks caused by accidental movement of almost any items on the surface of the laminate.
- Maica's High Gloss finish has high reflective value and high glossiness.
- Maica uses "micro-solid particles" technology to increase the durability and creates slipperiness to refuse molecular grip upon surface contact to prevent scuffing lines.

maiChemical Resistant
Maica's maiLab Chem is a chemical resistant product, with its surface manufactured using the Electron Beam Curing (EBC) technology. The end product is tested by the TUV SUV PSB Laboratory and SEFA to ensure compliance to our customer's requirements.
Electron Beam curing (EBC) is one of the most powerful industrial curing technologies commercially available today. The specialty of EBC is the ability of the EBC to penetrate the surface to fully cure and close the surface of the very thick, multiple Acrylic coating layers, which makes it possible for the high chemical resistance surface of maiLab Chem, characterized by high performance surface finish.
Maica’s maiLab Chem utilizes the advantages of the EBC technology with acrylic resin. maiLab Chem has not a single, but double-coating of acrylic combination for better surface performance, reduced VOCs and low carbon footprint since the EBC process does not produce CO2. maiLab Chem’s EBC surface layer is combined with phenolic treated virgin-pulp kraft paper, processed under high temperature and high pressure to ensure compliance with the EN438 standards for its physical properties. The process requires special calibration to the temperature, pressure and duration of production. The end result is maiLab Chem with a flat surface, complete with chemical resistance suitable for professional laboratory use.
maiFood Contact Safety
Have you ever worried about building materials going into food upon contact? The only way is to look for products that have minimal transfer of building material surface to foods stuff upon contact. There are tests available to confirm these, and Maica had sent maiProducts to ISEGA laboratory in Germany for a full test. The result is Maica's achievement of a Certificate of Compliance. This gives the assurance that all kinds of foodstuff may safely be prepared and treated on maiLaminate and maiCompact, provided that hygiene regulations are not violated.
maiTermite Resistant
It is a common misconception that termites are eating wood. In reality, they are eating the cellulose that the wood is made of. But while they do consume cellulosic materials, termites cannot retrieve any nutrition without the assistance of bacteria, fungi and protozoa to break down the cellulose and release the nutrients that can be absorbed by the host termite. In other words, bacteria, fungi and termites are good friends with each other. Since maiCompact is anti-microbial, termites are incapable of destroying the laminates.
- Laboratory test using the standard ASTM D3345-08
- Field test using FRIM Working Procedure PK A1 test
- Termite specie used is Subterranean Termite, the worst termite for buildings.
Note:
Termites are capable of emitting methane, one of the most important non-CO2 greenhouse gases, and is responsible for nearly as much global warming as all other non-CO2 greenhouse gases put together.
The National Pest Management Association in USA estimates that termites cause $5 billion in property damage each year.
Advantages of Application:
- Toilet cubicle panels
- Sports facilities cabinets
- F&B Table Tops
- Kitchen Tops
- Hospital and Health Care facilities
- Public Facilities
- Remote area facilities
